Oriel got off to a great start in their bid to try and reclaim the Boomer Cup with a strong performance against a good Mid Down team.

1st Half
Stephen McMahon’s rink had a controlled game and were always able to stay a few shots ahead against Mid Down’s R Cathcart to finish up with a 12-8 win.

John Murnaghan’s rink had a great back and forth game against P Christie, and in the end they couldn’t be separated finishing in a 7-7 draw.

Shane Hand’s rink put in a fantastic shift with a 16-2 victory over D Boal which put the overall match firmly in Oriel’s grasp. A wrong bias shot to touch the jack by the ditch and lie shot by Shane was a particular highlight to this game.

With these matches Oriel took a 35-17 lead into the 2nd half, knowing they just had to keep things tight to progress to the next round.

2nd Half
Paddy Hanlon’s rink had a good tight game against D McNamara, but were able to finish the game strongly to come out with a 12-8 win.

Kevin Conroy’s rink had a very good game against G Christie, and their experience told in the end finishing up with a 8-6 win.

Marty Trainor’s rink had a very good performance against Neil Brown and came out with a 12-5 win.

Overall it was a great performance from the team, finishing up with a final score of 67-36. We’d like to thank Mid Down for making the trip to Corduff for a good sporting game and wish them the best for the rest of the year in the Plate competition.

Next up for Oriel is a last 16 match against Larne at home on the 7th of December. Looking forward to it!
