A high quality field qualified for the finals night of Redeemer pairs in Dundalk, with some fantastic games throughout.
Quarter Finals
Stephen Oliver & Mark Sproule Vs Jim Fox & Paul Duff – This was a good game throughout, with the lead going back and forth. In the end though Jim and Paul managed to come through with a win by 1 point to make the semi final.
Bernie Cunningham & Pat Cunningham Vs Michael Garvey & Vince Smyth – This game was also very tight throughout with very little to choose between the 2 pairs during the game. Michael and Vince took a 2 shot lead in the last end, however Pat played a fantastic final bowl to burn the jack and give them a chance to replay the end. In the replayed final end he then played another brilliant shot to with his last bowl to get the 3 points they needed for victory.
Jack Hanratty & Diarmuid McMahon Vs Michael Hand & Shane Hand – Unfortunately in this game Jack and Diarmuid never really got going, and with Michael and Shane in good form they were able to come through this game comfortably in the end.
Ed Smyth & Ethna Smyth received a bye straight into the semi finals.
Semi Finals
Jim Fox & Paul Duff Vs Michael Hand & Shane Hand – In this game Michael and Shane continued their strong form and got the win with a couple of ends to spare.
Ed Smyth & Ethna Smyth Vs Bernie Cunningham & Pat Cunningham – This was another high quality game with Bernie and Pat playing well, and Ed and Ethna not getting good shots in their first game of the night. Slowly Ed and Ethna were able to take control of the match and come through with an end to spare.
Final
This left us with an exciting match-up in the final with Michael Hand and Shane Hand taking on Ed Smyth and Ethna Smyth and the game didn’t disappoint. All four players played fantastic bowls and the game was extremely tight throughout. In the end though Michael and Shane were just about able to come out with the win and take the Anthony Rogers trophy.
Congratulations to Michael and Shane and a big thank you to everyone who supported the tournament!
