Oriel went in with hopes of reaching the semi-final of the plate. Standing in their way was local neighbours Monaghan. Both teams had many new juniors on show.
First Half
Monaghan began brightly racing into an 11 shot lead with Vera and carol both down. Hwowever Imelda was holding her own at 2-2. The game then sparked into life when Vera picked up a 4 to lead 6-5 and Imelda picked uo a 4 also to lead 7-2. Carol however was struggling at 7-2 down. Carols game changed soon after when she picked up a run of 2 shots to lead 8-7 and in the end drew 9-9. The opposite happened to Imelda. She lead 9-2 after 7 but dropped 2 2s and a single to win 9-7. On Vera’s mat it looked very much like a draw game but Vera played a wonder shot to pick up 5 and win 14-8.

The second half began brightly for Monaghan and after 3 ends on each mat they had retaken the lead. Patricia Hanlon’s Rink halted the momentum and with two singles and a three. However Rachel’s rink was having a really bad day at the office, 8-0 down after 6 ends. Gill had won 4 of the first 6 ends but unfortunately a count of 5 saw them 8-5 down. The scores were tied now after 6 ends. This again kicked Monaghan up another notch and in the end Monaghan ran out easy victors with Rachel losing 12-2, Patricia losing 10-9 and Gill losing 13-6.

This was a sore defeat from the position we were in at half time. But Oriel must take some positives. This is a new team and hopefully will get stronger and stronger in coming years.
,ll to play for. ,,
