About our association

The Irish Shortmat Bowls Association (iiba.co.uk) is the governing body for shortmat bowls in Ireland. The country is split up into different regions called ‘zones’. Each of these zones are made up of multiple local clubs. Each zone hosts leagues and competitions between their clubs, as well as organising local tournaments and qualifiers for national competitions. Each zone also fields men’s, women’s and junior (under 18s) zone teams, with players chosen from all the clubs in their jurisdiction to play in all-Ireland inter-zone competitions.

About Oriel zone

Oriel Zone was founded in 1995 after splitting from Monaghan Zone. It has clubs from South Monaghan, Louth, South Armagh and Cavan. Gerry O’Hare, Brendan McMahon, Benny Casey, Paddy Martin and Seamus Watters made up the first committee.

Since then we have enjoyed great success on the national and international front with multiple players and teams competing in and winning in National and International competions. We have 5 men’s All-Ireland Inter-zone titles, 3 women’s All-Ireland Inter-zone titles, and 5 junior(u-18s) All-Ireland Inter-zone titles with hopefully many more to come!
